Paul Duggan Co., Inc.

Our Repair Department Philosophy

Fine watches like any mechanical device require periodic maintenance. Most manufacturers recommend cleaning and water resist inspection every three years. We have made a speciality of working on fine watches only and have established two complete workshops with state of the art equipment and skilled professional watchmakers. We have also established parts accounts with many of the high grade manufacturers to ensure a supply of genuine factory parts. In addition we network with other watch dealers and repair centers around the world to obtain discontinued parts for older timepieces. We also have contacts for many sub-specialities such as case repair and dial restoration.

In addition to servicing high grade wristwatches, we also service most American and some European pocket watches.

Watchmaking is a highly skilled profession and requires years of training and experience to become proficient. There exist in America today many levels of watch repair service. There are trade shops who cater to the retail jeweler, processing large volumes of work at low prices. There are home hobbyists working part time with little training but a passion for watches. There are factory service centers employing many watchmakers at all levels of training and experience. There is a place in the repair business for all of these people. Our staff are graduate watchmakers with many years of experience working on fine watches. We strive to do a thorough and complete job to bring your watch to its best possible performance. We discourage doing partial jobs as this only leads to excessive wear and cost in the long run. Our pricing is not the lowest in the industry but is very competitive with other skilled high grade watchmakers.

Think of your fine watch as you would a fine automobile, it is worth maintaining as it will increase your pleasure of ownership and also enhance the resale or trade-in value. If you plan on passing your watch on to the next generation, skilled periodic maintenance will be greatly appreciated in the future.

Warranty: We warranty all repairs for a period of 1 year from the date of service. This warranty covers all mechanical components and case water resistance to manufactures standards. External cosmetics and damage due to shock are not covered. Water leakage due to open crown or hot tub usage is not covered.

After assembly and lubrication the movement is checked on our Witschi Timer for amplitude, beat and timing. Adjustments are made as needed and the movement is cased.

Pressure Testing

After casing all water resistant and waterproof watches are checked to factory standards. Defective gaskets and crowns are replaced and the watch is re-tested until it passes.

Cyclo Test

The final test is on the cyclo tester which simulates the movement of your wrist. This confirms the function of the auto wind mechanism in automatic watches and is a double check on positional error in all watches.
